Koh Chang Naval Battle Monument
Annusorn Sathan Yutthanawi Koh Chang
(Naval War Memorial) is located on :Laem Ngob Beach, consisting of the figure
of Krom Luang Chumpon Khet Udomsak turning his face to Koh Chang, and a warship-shaped
museum building, where an exibition on the historic naval war on Koh Chang is
on display.Locals and visitors usually pay respect to this memorial.It is also
a place for recreational activities. A celebration is held every year between
January 17-21.

spots on Koh Chang and other groups of islands
Naval
Battle Area
is in the
south of Koh Chang close to Salak Petch Bay.It is remembered as the site of battle
between the Thai and French navies on January 17, 1941 during the French colonisation
days.
Tan Mayom Waterfall
is
a three storey fall of medium size set among adurian orchard.
The track up to waterfall is near the office of the national park. King Rama V
and VI once visited the place and signed their royal names on the highest cliff
of the cascade.
Klong Nonsi Waterfall
is
a little fall on the northeast of the island. The track so the area lies 3 Km.
from Baan Daan Mai or 3 Km. from the National Park Office.
Klong
Nueng Waterfall
is a small fall situated remotely
from Salak Petch Community near Salak Petch Waterfall.
Klong
Son Bay
is rich with corals on the northernmost
of the west coast. Klong Son Community is set up in the area.(what's so special?)
Klong Plu Waterfall
has
three storeys. The entrance is 3 Km. from Ao Klong Prao Community. It will take
about 20 minutes from the entrance to the site by walking.
Koh
Chang Noi
and Leam Chang Noi lie in the north
of Koh Chang. The sea between Koh Chang Noi and Laem Chang Noi is abundant with
corals.
Tri
Petch Waterfall
has only one storey.
The place is situated 3 Km. from Salak Petch Community along the orchard of rubber
trees.

White Sand Beach
is one of the longest beaches
on Koh Chang. Bungalows and resorts of reasonable price are easily found. At the
back of the beach are orchards of coconut trees and forests. The beach is
easily accessible.
Bang
Bao Fishery Village
is an interesting village
where residents build houses with poles pitched into the sea with bridges reaching
every house. Bang Bao is rich with corals. Ko Mun Nok-Mun Nai is a small isle
opposite Kai Bae Beach. The Beach around the isle can be seen at low tide.The
sea in the area is shallow with plenty of gold-coloured corals.
Long Sand Beach
is next to Sa Lak Kok Bay.
The area is covered with forest and orchards of coconut trees
Klong Phrao Beach
Klong Phrao Beach is a long sandy beach with clear sea-water.At
the northernmost of the beach is Laem Chaiyachet or Chaiyachet Cape which is an
ideal site to watch the sun rise or set depending on which side you stand!Fishing
boats are anchored near the cape and are available for hire.A fishing pier is
erected nearby. Swimming is not recommended near the cape due to rocks and deep
water.
Klong
Phrao Beach has a good supply of bungalow accommodations.It is a place for lazing
under the tropical sun and swimming in the clear blue sea.
Kai Bae Beach
is next to Klong Phrao Beach.
The sea is steep but swimming is possible.A few islands can be seen offshore,
some so close and tempting, you may like to consider taking a canoe ride across.Boats,canoes
and a dive shop are all set, ready for you to explore.The beach is a beauty and
accommodation can be hard to get as there is limited supply.Cheap and simple accommodations
in the form of small bungalows and huts are scaterred along the beach.For those
who cannot find accommodation, the consolence is that you can still spend your
day there as the neighbourhood is very friendly.

The
Koh Kood Sub-district
Koh Kood
is the second
largest island of the Koh Chang National Marine Park. It is located further southeast
of Koh Chang and takes 4 1/2 hours by ferry from Laem Ngob. Koh Kood landscape
is quite simmilar to that of Koh Chang. Being further south and less populated
, Koh Kood is less developed. Besides it's sun, sand and sea elements the Klong
Jao Waterfall or Tan Sanuk Waterfall is another scenic attraction on the island.
There are 7 resorts on the island which caters of the higher priced markets. Room
Rates is about 2,000 Baht/Night or above. Usually these rates include transportation.
Koh Maak
is
situated between Koh Chang and Koh Kood. Although third largest in the group of
island it has an area of only about 16 square kilometers.The beach on the northwest
of the island is a beauty. About one-third of the land is covered by rainforest
while coconut plantations and Rubber trees take up the majority of the island.
Fishing, diving, cycling ,boating and motorbiking are favourite past times.
Koh Kradad
is situated to the northeast
of Koh Maak. It derived its name from the Kradad trees. Koh Kradad has its historical
significance as being the first island to be issued land title deeds. This was
actually a deterrent of the French aggression on the island. During the French
colonisation of Indochina Koh Kradad was targeted as a possible territory of expansion.
King Rama V ordered the issuance of title deeds for Koh Kradad to confirm Thailand's
sovereignty over the island. The long white beach and the corals in its vicinity
are the main attractions. There is only one known resort so far, the Koh Kradad
Resort , which include transportation in their room rates. Getting to Koh Kradad
takes about 2 to 3 hours from Laem Ngob.
Koh
Lao Ya
is a group of islands south of Koh Chang.
The group is made up of Koh Lao Ya Nai, Koh Lao Ya Klang and Koh Lao Ya Nok. Transportation
from Laem Ngob takes about 2 and a half hours. The islands are famed for their
beaches, clear water and colourful corals.
Koh
Wai
is situated further south and is about twice the size of Koh
Lao Ya. It has many scenic bays, rich coral zones and beaches some of which are
ladened with an abundance of stones. Koh Wai is a haven for those who love fishing.
As for accommodations, Koh Wai Pakarung Resort and Koh Wai Paradise are ready
to serve tourists.
Koh
Khlum
was a battleground during the French
colonisation of Indochina.Koh Khlum is also suitable for fishing. It has
an impressive landscape.
Koh Phrao
is in front of Salakpetch Bay. From Laem Ngob, it takes
two hours to the island. Koh Phrao has clean and calm sea with cool and shady
beaches covered by coconuts trees.
Koh
Rung
is a small island on the west of Koh
Maak. This little isle do not have enough flat land for construction of accommodation
facilities.However, it is a relatively important island as it is a major source
of bird nests,"Charamed" eggs and bat's dung. Stone knolls and deep-water
corals under the sea of Koh Rung are fascinating.
Koh
Ngam
is situated south of Koh Chang and
comprises of two island with a huge sand knoll in between.Koh Ngam is blessed
by the beauty of its bay which is part of a mountain extending into the sea.Travelling
time is two hours from Laem Ngob.
