![]() It’s a hilltop palace. With a regal view above the world. And it can comfortably call itself by a grand name – without boasting. Because you really are treated like a king at Royal Siam.Choose to sit in the bright and elegant 50-seat interior restaurant building with its luxurious padded chairs, or on the spacious 30-seat terra-cotta tiled terrace with the infinity swimming pool directly below, and the ornate plunge-pool with its trickling waterfalls to one side. From both locations you’ll be able to enjoy the view. Royal Thai Cuisine is served here, alongside
a wide international selection. Recommended starters include: Khanom-pung Nar
Koong – deep-fried shrimps on toast served with sweet and sour cucumber sauce;
and Poo Jar – deep-fried stuffed crab-meat served with plum sauce. Both dishes
are perfect examples of Royal Thai cuisine – delicious, and imaginatively presented
too. The Kaeng Khiew-warn Ped Yarng – roasted duck-meat green curry in a young
coconut shell – shows how cooking Royal Thai-style changes the taste of a favourite
Thai dish, with dramatic results. Marvellous! And if you really want to experience
extreme differences of the same dish, try Royal Siam’s Khao Pad Prik Kaeng Khiew
Warn Gai – fried-rice with chicken in green curry served with salted-egg and Chinese
sausage. The name is the same as what’s offered on streets and footpaths across
the whole country – but that’s about the only similarity! If you’re not feeling adventurous, and want
to stay with international cuisine or seafood, no problem, there’s plenty for
you to choose from. The Royal Prawn Cocktail with its huge king prawns, ample
salad and special sauce on a large plate makes the tiny European versions back
home of the same starter in a small glass look a bit sad. And it tastes great
too. The Lobster Bisque is also highly recommended and will certainly prepare
you for the main courses. Both the Peninsula Steak and King Prawns with pepper
sauce and baked potato, and the Grilled Chicken-breast with Neapolitan sauce and
French fries come highly recommended – personally! And if you want to mix eastern
and western tastes in a single dish, there’s always the Pizza Royal Thai Village,
which successfully blends the two using chicken massaman curry,
tomatoes and mozzarella cheese as its main ingredients. In the wine department
there are no compromises either, with every major wine-producing country of the
world represented to complement the world-class cuisine on offer.Royal Siam really
does provide a special Royal Thai Cuisine experience – in royal style!

Samui
Peninsula Spa & Resort is already one of the finest locations on the island
for having a massage – and the spa hasn’t even been completed! But how can that
be so?Well, that’s easy. It has three superb ‘salas’ (Thai-style pavilions) that
have been imaginatively placed around this incredibly beautiful ‘resort on a hillside’.
And it’s in these, that you can lay back and enjoy a Traditional Thai Massage,
an Aromatherapy Massage, a Reflexology Foot Massage, a Relaxing Facial, or an
Aloe Vera Body-wrap. Just ask the main reception staff and they’ll gladly show
you around and take good care of you. Two of the salas are positioned near the hotel lobby
and swimming pool, looking out across the bay to neighbouring tropical islands.
They are screened on two sides, providing total privacy, but open enough to allow
the fresh air to blow through, keeping you cool and comfortable. Both are tastefully
designed in the same luxurious ‘royal’ style which is in clear evidence throughout
the resort. Samui Peninsula Spa & Resort is a brand-new property and no expense
has been spared in making it one of the island’s finest. But it’s the third sala
that really captures the imagination, and the heart. And to reach it means a short
stroll around the lovely infinity swimming pool, and past some of the resort’s
private villas. When your eye eventually catches it, sitting alone on a rocky
promontory with the turquoise blue sea behind, your heart will skip a beat. And
when you descend down the grassy banks, then ascend the
short pathway up to it, the feeling of peace and tranquillity becomes almost tangible.
There, a therapist will be waiting, fully prepared, to provide you with another
special Samui spa experience. The splash of water on the rocks below, cooling sea-breezes
flowing across your body, and a highly-professional massage by a fully-trained
masseuse. What more could you possibly wish for? Maybe a Jacuzzi? Well that’s
possible too in the private villa that you’ll be using as a changing and shower
area.
