Welcome
to Koh-Chang
Koh-Chang
is a sub-district of Trat province, which borders Cambodia to the north and east
and the province of Chantaburi to the north and west. The Buntud Mountain Range
separates Trat from Cambodia while the Weru river forms the borderline between
Chantaburi and Trat.
Koh
Chang and its 46 sister islands of the Marine National Park lie within the Gulf
of Thailand. Of these only 10 of them are equipped with accommodation facilities
which range from the very basic atap huts to the more luxurious air-conditioned
hotel and villa units. Therefore ,Koh Chang is ready to welcome visitors of all
budgets. This can be less than USD 10 or about USD 100.
As
a leisure island resort within a Marine National Park it is natural for Koh Chang
to be well-stocked with fresh seafood at economical prices. Dining and wining
in Koh Chang is quite an experience. Good food is just one facet. The other is
the laid back environment created by some innovative restaurants which inspire
a very relaxing and romantic atmosphere. These include dinning right on the beach
by night or on a hill overlooking the coastlines or practically off-shore on a
table setting of your own above sea-water.
Koh-Chang
is primitive compared to a cosmopolitan capital like Bangkok. But it has all the
essential facilities and utilities you would need for a good leisurely life, free
of the hustles and bustles of the so-called modern developed society. It is this
very limited development that charms most visitors. Here's a place where you feel
you are in control of your pace, your time. Almost all the developments are at
the coastal parts of the island due to its largely mountainous landscape and it
National Park status.
Koh
Chang can be a great hideaway for a quiet retreat or an adventureland for the
hyperactive. It is a land of sheer holiday, a real leisure destination. It is
a calm and peaceful island for those who wish to take their own pace just lazing
around, sunbathing, sleeping on a hammock between two coconut trees or having
a rejuvenating massage on the beach.
And
when you feel like you need to spend off some of your energy there is a host of
activities you can indulge in, such as scuba diving ,snorkelling, canoeing, kayaking,
deep-sea fishing, boating, trekking, elephant trekking, cycling, jogging along
the coast, visit other islands or rent a motorcycle for a tour of the island.
Koh
Chang can welcome you any time but the best season is from October to May. Advance
booking for the trip is highly recommended during this period due to limited accommodation
facilities.
Koh-Chang
Marine National Park
occupies
an area of 650 sq. kilometers and is comprised of 47 islands, the largest and
most popular of which is Koh Chang (literally means Elephant Island). Other of
the more well-known islands include Koh Khlum,
Koh Ngam, Koh Lao Ya, Koh Rung, Koh Chang Noi, Koh Mun
Nok-Mun Nai, Koh Wai, Koh Phrao, Koh Kood, Koh Maak, and Koh Kradad.

Koh-Chang is the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket. Covering
an area of 429 sq. kilometers, Koh Chang's landscape is mainly mountains, cliffs,
bays, coves and beaches. The Salak Petch Peak (744 meters) is the highest mountain.
Koh Chang is blessed with fertile virgin forests, many waterfalls, pristine beaches
and clear blue sea. Off its coasts it boasts of a spectrum of colourful corals,
healthy marine lifes, and idyllic islands.
Koh-Chang
is one of the least discovered islands in Thailand despite its size, mainly
because it is situated within a protected marine national park. The successes
of other more developed destinations in Thailand helped overshadow the potential
of Koh Chang and protected it from aggressive exploitation of its natural wonders.
However, recently Koh Chang has attracted tremendous attention and is now set
to be another newly discovered resort destination that is rich in natural tourism
resources and virtually unpolluted, yet! Plans are underway to open its door to
more visitors without destroying its resources.
The
treasures of Koh Chang, its secluded beaches and the hidden coves that some called
the "Gorgeous Tropical Paradise" will no longer be a secret soon. So
come now and discover it first!
